Favorite 2012 moments, in no particular order
Driving on the AP-7 highway heading towards Barcelona Airport, realizing that the highway is called ‘Autopista Pau Casals’, then remembering a story that my friend Adam Selzer had told me just a few weeks before in Portland about Robert Johnson and Pablo Casals’ recordings in 1936. This is the story, I think: http://n.pr/sq0D73
Touring with Low. Watching Low soundcheck. Talking about guitar pedals and reagge with Alan Sparkhawk and about what it means to become a parent with Mimi Parker. Playing with Peter… speaking of Peter: Jamming on a fun song called ‘Benicàssim’ written by him while on holidays with Casper Clausen in Benicàssim, where I lived through 2012. Going to Berlin some months afterwards, finding myself happily surprised by Peter playing this song live (that day he also played a new gem called ‘Hey Hayley’, which I loved).
Having breakfast at Durton Studio with Sir Nils Frahm after finishing up a new record. Learning a lot about stuff with him. Music stuff and otherwise.
Watching Efterklang + The Northern Sinfonia play ‘Piramida’ at the Barbican
Listening to Jules Verne’s ‘Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea’ audiobook on the inflight entertainment thingy on my way to Japan. Touring Japan w/ my dear friend Laurel Simmons (MayMay in May!); meeting so many nice people in Japan and falling in love with the country.
Staring at my three-month old son Oliver’s eyes when he smiles to me. Watching him breastfeed.
Encountering a big metal radish on a fence, in Berlin.
