2013 was an amazing year…here’s some of my highlights:
– Black Elk, Wraith vs Wrath, and Kinder Scout shows
– Moving back to Tokyo after two years in the sticks
– HomeNormalism festival in London
– Meeting and hanging out with music heroes who also now happen to be dear friends
– Going to a ryokan in Kawaguchiko with Danny and Clem
– ‘Pacifica’ by Segue – best album by some distance for me this year and so pleased for an old friend of mine
– Another year of marriage to my wonderful wife, Leonora
– Learning about traditional roofing techniques in Kasukabe
– Moving from a noisy apartment to a quiet house by the river, along with workshop for making stuff and a wine cellar. We were also able to host a Christmas day live show there, the first of many hopefully
– Meeting up and playing shows with Danny Norbury more than people who live down the road over the year
– Walking with my mum through the Oxfordshire countryside
– Playing ‘Butterfly Case’ by Cuushe loudly in our house (it’s my wife’s favourite record this year)
– Painting again after a hiatus
– M83 ‘Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming’
– Releasing with Rion and Lantscap on Hibernate and Infraction respectively
– ‘Jim Henson’ by Brian Jay Jones, and Cesare Pavese’s ‘The Moon and The Bonfires’
– Rewiring my Paia 1550 using my own circuit boards
– Before Midnight, Blancanieves, Warm Bodies
– Facture, Fluid Audio, Fluid Radio: the amazing work of Dan and Jess Crossley
– Seeing Yas and Mayuko again after toooooooo long!
Finally, the sad passing of Benjamin Curtis from School of Seven Bells, my uncle Christopher, and our cat Norman. Who and what they were and are will always stay with me through music, image and memory.
